Managing the Logbook
Adding new events
The Date/Time will be preset to the current date and time and the Period will be preset, based on the User Settings configuration and the time. When adding an event for a different date and time, set the correct date and time and then click the black diamond button (highlighted in the picture below) to recalculate the period.
Add whatever data is required
for the event, and leave the rest blank.
Glucose test: the glucose reading. The
unit is preset with the default from in User Settings. The
glucose level indicator is a graphical view of the glucose
value compared to the glucose level limits from User
Settings.
Administered: record the insulins and medicine used.Note: due to a limitation of the indicator, the colours indicate:
In the main Logbook Table and the Reports the warning low and critical low readings are coloured Amber and Red, respectively.
- Green = target high and below (that is: all critical low, warning low and on target readings)
- Amber = between target high and critical high
- Red = above critical high
Fields 'A' and 'B' are usually used for recording insulin, specifically to help separate Bolus and Basal insulins, but can easiliy be used to record medicines too. The lists for 'A' and 'B' are ordered: insulins first, followed by medicines.
Field 'C' is usually used for recording medicine, but can easiliy be used to record insulin too. The list for 'C' is ordered: medicines first, followed by insulins.
In the reports the 'A', 'B' and 'C' insulins/medicines are distiguished by different text colours. Use User Settings to manage the list of insulins and medicines.
Carbohydrates eaten: for carb. counters, record the carbohydrates eaten. Different people use different units to record carbs and this will be decided with the diabetes medical team.
Ketones tested: when ketones are tested for, it is useful to record when they are not detected as well as when they are: useful to note when they have disappeared.
Notes: use Event Name and free-text notes to add context to the event's data. Using Event Names can help tracking for recurring event types such as high activity or illness.Note:
- '-ve' indicates a negative test, meaning that ketones where not detected.
- '+ve' indicates a positive test where ketones are present. Use the 'units' field to enter the value of the ketones as indicated on the side of your test-strip container.
Flag as important: events flagged as important will have a flag marker in the Logbook Table and will be highlighted in the reports.Events that have only Notes information will be displayed in the Notes report type.
Health: Record health related data such as is measured at home or at the clinic. In reports the weight and height can be converted into Body Mass Index, BMI (Kg/m²): if only weight is recorded in the event, when the report is created it will remember the latest height data that it has found in the requested date range and apply that height with the current event's weight data to calculate the BMI.
Discard Changes: discard the new event (or discard changes to an existing event).Note:
Note also that the BMI ranges for adults do not apply to children, for instance the US has published 'percentile' growth charts here that are applicable for its children.
BMI can be a useful indicator of health, and it is provided for information purposes only: further non-authoritive information can be search for using Google and BMI calculators advice are available such as the US CDC site here. Use of the BMI should be done with the advice of your health team.
Save Event: save the new or modified event.
